Congratulations to the Student Council Kids Care Club from Brooklyn, New York for being selected as Club of the Month for February. The Student Council Kids Care Club members have learned to better understand others' situations and the importance of supporting their community through their service work.. Club facilitator, Cynthia Dowdy shared that she has seen a tremendous growth in empathy and self-esteem among the members since the formation of the Club.
The Club completed a total of 8 service projects and volunteered 13,054 service hours in 2016. Club members made holiday cards for families, served Thanksgiving dinners at the Salvation Army, collected food for their local food bank, advocated against cyberbullying and assembled healthy activity kits with jump ropes for children abroad.
During the month of December, Club members participated in the Red Ribbon campaign, an initiative that promotes drug-free awareness and activities. Club members wrote and shared essays about drug prevention. Additionally, the Club got the whole school involved and tasked each class with decorating a poster and creating a chant about the dangers of drug use and the negative impacts of drug abuse. Their work culminated in a school-wide march with over 300 participants!
generationOn is proud to see how serving has set a foundation of kindness and compassion among members of the Student Council Kids Care Club. We can't wait to see what is in store for the Student Council Kids Care Club in 2017! Remember to keep submitting your pictures and stories using the online service tracker for a chance to be recognized as the Club of the Month.
