On behalf of the generationOn advisory board, staff and close to one million youth that we engage annually in service, service learning, and leadership development, thank you for your support at our annual benefit.
Your support and investment in generationOn enables us to inspire, equip and mobilize youth to take action that changes the world and themselves through service. They make their mark on the world because you invested in building their confidence and empowering them to address community issues.
This year, with close to 300 guests in attendance, we raised over $740K to advance our mission and celebrated our honorees Suprita Datta, Andrea and Maurice DuBois, Alex and Ani, and Prudential Financial, Inc. along with all six of our 2014 Hasbro Community Action Hero awardees who are beacons of hope and compassion in their communities and around the world.
Five year old awardee Kellon Oldenettel of Jacksonville, IL said it best, “When you are nice, other people might be nice back, and then maybe they will do something nice for other people.” It is with Kellon’s spirit of service that the generationOn team goes to work every day to mobilize youth between the ages of 5 and 18 through our Kids Care (elementary) and Service Clubs (middle and high school), goLEAD youth leadership training institutes, family volunteering activities and youth service campaigns.
As Brian Goldner, President and CEO, Hasbro, Inc. introduced each of the Hasbro Community Action Hero awardees, we were all reminded of the diverse ways in which we can make our mark. Whether we are collecting socks for the homeless or building water purification systems in third world countries, reading to children or volunteering our time to teach a child a musical instrument, supporting veterans returning home or assembling and distributing care packages, all acts of service are important.
We are grateful to our special guests including Neil Bush, Paula Abdul, Shannon Bahrke and Billy Demong, and we were blown away by generationOn celebrity youth ambassador Jordan Fisher who sang Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror. Our Youth Advisory Council representatives Tyler Bleuel, Rachel Shuster, and Rachita Zaparde along with our celebrity youth ambassadors Francesca Capaldi, Max Page, and Cozi Zuehlsdorff did an outstanding job throughout the night in various speaking roles and helped us recognize donors during the reverse auction by “lighting up the room” through the distribution of glow necklaces.
We are especially grateful to our event underwriters, Hasbro and Prudential Financial Inc., along with our co-chairs Kevin Arquit, James Collins, Brian and Barbara Goldner, and Silda Wall Spitzer.
